No Hazing
Message to Our Parents

Pledges play a central role in Chi Psi’s daily life. Pledges at Chi Psi contribute their voices to the daily governance of the Lodge; participate in all the activities; and leave a lasting legacy of their pledge class through the pledge class project.

There is absolutely no hazing at Chi Psi. You cannot respect someone who has hazed you. An often sited excuse for hazing is that it bonds a pledge class together. At Chi Psi, we build bonds across the entire membership. One exemplary aspect of Chi Psi is the large number of brothers who have close friendships across multiple pledge classes. This is one of our greatest strengths and is completely antithetical to hazing.

Another excuse for hazing is the misguided notion that hazing somehow enhances the initiation experience. Initiation is the single most important activity we conduct and we would never diminish its importance to us by hazing. We have a saying at Chi Psi, that the initiation ceremony should be conducted in such a manner that the president of the university could be initiated with dignity. Alumni are present at every initiation and we live up to that standard.

The Chi Psi Experience
Message to Our Parents

Chi Psi is a fraternity of gentlemen. We emphasize strong friendships between brothers, while maintaining strong academic and social reputations on campus. We have the 4th highest fraternity GPA and consistently exceed the UW All Men’s and All Fraternity averages. The fraternity also assists its members in offering them scholarship opportunities that are available through Chi Psi Educational Trust, the Inter-fraternity Council, and the University of Washington.

Leadership opportunities are plentiful within the Lodge. All elected members are chosen by their peers, and there is something for everyone. Ask one of our current officers if you would like to hear more about our leadership positions within the Lodge. These opportunities are unique to the fraternity community and provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience for your son.

We have several formal events where parents are invited to come and join in celebrating special occasions at the Lodge, but impromptu visits are always welcome! Feel free to contact any officer or the Parents' Club chair with any question at any time.
