Respect

The first pillar of brotherhood at Chi Psi is respect for each other – you cannot have brotherhood without respect. All individuals in Chi Psi – actives and pledges – are treated equally. Interaction between every member, senior to freshman, is respectful, sincere, and honest with one another.

We stress the equality of pledges and actives. Actives and pledges have the exact same living arrangements and Lodge duties. We do not have sleeping porches; every live-in has a room and a roommate. All live-ins, from seniors to the newest pledge, share equally in cleaning responsibility; the Lodge is home to all of us and we all participate in maintaining it.

No Hazing

The second pillar of brotherhood is absolutely no hazing. You cannot respect someone who has hazed you. An often sited excuse for hazing is that it bonds a pledge class together. At Chi Psi, we build bonds across the entire membership. One exemplary aspect of Chi Psi is the large number of brothers who have close friendships across multiple pledge classes. This is one of our greatest strengths and is completely antithetical to hazing.

Brotherhood

On the twin pillars of respect and no hazing, we proceed to build brotherhood for a lifetime, not just four years. Chi Psis do not merely socialize together for four years. Our intent, as a fraternity, is to build relationships between our members that last a lifetime, not ones that end after their tenure in college.

One of the greatest and least-mentioned benefits of being a Chi Psi is the number of lifetime friendships you will make. Years later, many Chi Psis remark that the friendships they made at Chi Psi were the strongest bonds they’ve ever had, and one of the greatest benefits of joining the fraternity.

Dry Rush

In 1986, Chi Psi established a first at the University of Washington – dry rush. We serve no alcohol at our rush events and we have rigorously enforced this policy for every year since 1986.

We believe choosing your fraternity is the second most important decision of your collegiate life (attending the University of Washington of course being the most important). Your judgment in this decision should not be impaired at any point by alcohol.

When you attend a Chi Psi rush event, we will take the time to get to know you and to honestly portray life at Chi Psi. We expect the same of you – that you will take the time to get to know us and to honestly portray yourself.

Chi Psi has proven for over two decades that we do not need to serve alcohol to recruit the finest pledge class on campus. We take the time to truly come to know you and we ask the same of you.
